• Hedgehof in the compost pile

    Posted on September 6th, 2010 Heidi No comments

    Yesterday Steffen found an hedgehog in our compost pile. The big question is how he get in there.

    Well, in the evening we free him after we build a new, little compost pile next to the pieplant. And after he sat there a while he looked around, eat some cat food we offered him and disappeard in the pieplant. A very cute and nice animal such a hedgehog :-)

    Well at the moment a lot of sparrows are nesting on our house. And they feel very well about our red currant. But well, they are so nice and clement and spare some fruits for us. :-)

  • Palmengarden - part 1

    Posted on May 2nd, 2010 Heidi No comments

    Yesterday, on the 1st of May, we went to Frankfurt to visit the nice palmgarden. Me and Steffen were glad on the many exotic plants and the rich colouring. Unfortunately, the mood was quite strained before we were there. Since in Frankfurt a bicycle running took place on the 1st of May and all streets were simply blocked without diversion signs. Thus we wandered 3/4 hours by Frankfurt (many thanks to the town for this great organisation!) and held, finally, before a police car. We had enough. Behind us stood suddenly 4 other cars which also rushed at the nice policeman in the car. Then he explained to me how we could find, nevertheless, still in the palm garden and 10 minutes later we reached our aim.

    Nevertheless, the mood brightened fast again, because the palm garden is really worthwhile. Cactuses, tropical plants, palms, a liverwurst tree, rhododendron bushes and a wonderful lake. And many many geese and ducks who were very trusting.

    In short, nevertheless, it still became a wonderful day and the trouble has obviously been worthwhile. Since nothing the material can emit so much joy and deep blessedness like these blaze of colour of the nature.

  • Spring in the South

    Posted on April 14th, 2010 Heidi No comments

    Now in the oak the sap of life is welling,
    Tho’ to the bough the rusty leafage clings;
    Now on the elm the misty buds are swelling,
    See how the pine-wood grows alive with wings;
    Blue-jays fluttering, yodeling and crying,
    Meadow-larks sailing low above the faded grass,
    Red-birds whistling clear, silent robins flying,–
    Who has waked the birds up? What has come to pass?

    Last year’s cotton-plants, desolately bowing,
    Tremble in the March-wind, ragged and forlorn;
    Red are the hill-sides of the early ploughing,
    Gray are the lowlands, waiting for the corn.
    Earth seems asleep still, but she’s only feigning;
    Deep in her bosom thrills a sweet unrest.
    Look where the jasmine lavishly is raining
    Jove’s golden shower into Danae’s breast!

    Now on the plum the snowy bloom is sifted,
    Now on the peach the glory of the rose,
    Over the hills a tender haze is drifted,
    Full to the brim the yellow river flows.
    Dark cypress boughs with vivid jewels glisten,
    Greener than emeralds shining in the sun.
    Who has wrought the magic? Listen, sweetheart, listen!
    The mocking-bird is singing Spring has begun.

    Hark, in his song no tremor of misgiving!
    All of his heart he pours into his lay,–
    “Love, love, love, and pure delight of living:
    Winter is forgotten: here’s a happy day!”
    Fair in your face I read the flowery presage,
    Snowy on your brow and rosy on your mouth:
    Sweet in your voice I hear the season’s message,–
    Love, love, love, and Spring in the South!

  • The glory of the spring

    Posted on April 11th, 2010 Heidi No comments

    I heard the lyric passion in the night,
    And felt my pulses leap as to a tune
    Played upon pipes celestial; rapt delight
    Mastered wholly, for methought the rune
    Wan Winter had been mouthing to the moon
    Must cease, and even as I hearkened, lo,
    Naught filled the darkness save the overflow
    Of life renascent mounting as on wing!
    And when dawn set the orient sky aglow,
    Behold, behold the glory of the Spring!

    In liveries of living emerald dight,
    The hilltops hailed each other; dale and dune
    Sparkled with spangled splendors, beryl bright;
    Above, the heights of heaven seemed to swoon
    With hyacinthine hues that presaged June;
    Through every copse ran rapture to and fro,
    The wood-thrush vying with the vireo;
    And Minstrel Rillet touched a silvern string,
    And Trouvère South Wind lipped his flute to blow–
    “Behold, behold the glory of the Spring!”

    And there were Flora’s firstlings, spindrift white,
    And amber ardent as the rays of noon,
    Thronging the woods as for some fairy rite
    With branches waving a fantastic croon;–
    The modest violet, its breath a boon
    To perfume-lovers; the cupped trillium’s snow;
    The bright marsh-marigolds in ring or row,
    All seeming with ecstatic sense to sing
    In virginal and tender tribute “O
    Behold, behold the glory of the Spring!”

    Prime o’ the year, within our hearts we know
    Thy benediction after Winter’s woe
    Is sweeter far than any earthly thing!
    Promise unfolds what shining fields to sow!
    Behold, behold the glory of the Spring!

  • Iceland - a wonderful movie

    Posted on February 14th, 2010 Heidi No comments

    The film hall is getting dark and a very expressive and pleasant voice sounds. Stefan Erdmann intruduce himself and immerse with the audience in his film about a wonderful and fascinating country: Iceland.

    The breathtaking admissions which catch the beauty of the country deposits with a magnificent music and the exactly sedate comments of Stefan Erdmann. I am inspired, fascinate, longingly and above all: deeply touched.

    Already twice I had the possibility to visit this often from stereotype afflicted country. Every time I was overwhelmed. These emotions, this beauty not expressed in words and fascination are given an understanding by Stefan in a magnificent film to the audience.

    The exact and discreet comments make smile the audience, inform and arouse enthusiasm. But one also has time to marvel at just at this film, to listen in the miraculous music and to let work everything on himself.

    I would like to owe Stefan dearly for this great talk yesterday in Karlsruhe.

    I can only recommend the people who love the nature which like Iceland or which would like to allow to enchant themselves just from fascinating  admissions of an fascinating country this film talk. I am sure that the admissions will also enchant you.
